Professional Development

Through seminars and educational programs, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) gives you a chance to update your professional skills and knowledge in this ever-changing field.
Emmy® Awards
The Midwestern Regional Emmy® Awards are presented annually for outstanding achievements in broadcasting. As a member, you receive a discount on your Emmy entry fees, as well as a chance to recognize your personal excellence by entering your best work.
Emmy® Judging
Each year the Ohio Valley Chapter judges work from other NATAS chapters. You will have a chance to evaluate your peers’ work from around the nation. News, program and craft offerings are screened to determine nominations for regional Emmy Awards. This is your chance to discover television from other markets and regions. Participants in judging receive a $10 Appreciation Certificate that can be used toward membership dues, Emmy entry fees, tickets to chapter events.
Job Bank
Job Bank is a comprehensive job listing service sponsored by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Ohio Valley Chapter, and 18 other chapters nationwide. It’s the largest and fastest growing of all the television industry related job banks. With over 14,000 members, NATAS is the single largest television professional association in the world.
National and Chapter News and Information
NATAS membership offers you timely information throughout the year from local and national newsletters and e-mail updates. Stay informed on news from The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences through The Telesphere, an online newsletter. TV Quarterly is also available online and provides in-depth coverage of issues facing our industry. The Ohio Valley Chapter keeps members up-to-date through e-mails and our website.

Scholarship Awards
NATAS members’ children and grandchildren are candidates for the John Cannon Memorial Scholarship, given to two high school seniors who plan to study communications. A $40,000 Trustees’ Scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who plans to pursue careers in television or a related field. In addition, the Ohio Valley Chapter offers an annual $3,000 scholarship to broadcasting students enrolled in four-year academic institutions within the four-state region. The recipient is honored each year at the annual Emmy Awards show.
